Coopers Rock, WV, June 11-13, 2010

Coopers Rock State Forest - about 180 miles from home. At over 12,000 acres, the largest state forest in WV. Named for a fugitive barrel maker, he plied his trade in these remote hills for many decades before being caught. Jon & Terry from OH joined us, as did the Goodspeed clan from Columbia MD.

Looking down on the Cheat River.....further upstream, it's a well known river for white water kayaking and rafting.

Enroute, we stopped at the C&O Canal museum in Cumberland.

Kathy learns how canal boat families lived on board their boats....Not quite as fancy as living in a 32 year old motorhome!

The museum is also the terminal for the Western Maryland scenic railroad.

At Coopers Rock, we ran across a rock climbing school in session. They invited the Goodspeed gang to join them......

"So, who knows the way outta here?"......

Mandy demonstrates her Spiderwomen skills........

A pic of Patrick's good side.........
Jon the tour guide......

A little rain forced a lunch under the awning.

Campfire chatter........

Waitin for the rain to leave......

Some West Virginia music at Coopers Rock

Cordorus State Park, PA, June 4-6, 2010

First trip of the season with the Heidenberg girls.....Spent Friday night with the Heidenberg gang at their New Market home. Saturday morning it was off to Hanover PA and the Cordorus State Park...about 45 miles.

Lake Marburg, the center point for Cordorus State Park.

Plenty of places to stop for lunch..........
Since the swimming pool was still closed, we scouted out a nice place on the shores of Lake Marburg......but first we need our sunscreen!

Lake was cool & enticing.....wasn't long before Bampa inflated the Sea Eagle for some kayaking lessons.......

Raegan is now qualified to teach Uncle Andy how to paddle his kayak......

Bampa gets left behind.....(Note to the Mom: RELAX!....It was only a foot deep!)

Abby insists she doesn't need a short nap......30 seconds later...........

The light drizzle and our Smore party both started about the same time...

Yep, camping sure is FUN!.........
A fierce game of BINGO.........OUR rules are a little different it seems.....

Powdered sugar donuts......One of camping's main food groups!

On the way to Mass Sunday, we found a dine-o-mite playground to check out. We liked it so much, we returned after church for more play time and lunch.
